Overview

Arbor Research Collaborative for Health is seeking candidates experienced in qualitative research to conduct interviews and focus groups for an evaluation of the National Hypertension Control Initiative (NHCI). This is a temporary part-time opportunity, requiring 10-15 hours per week and an immediate start date. NHCI seeks to implement evidence-based interventions targeting hypertension prevention and management that improve both cardiovascular health and COVID-19 outcomes nationally for racial and ethnic populations experiencing inequities in hypertension control. NHCI formed as a partnership between the Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and the Office of Minority Health (OMH).

 

 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Recruit study participants via phone and email; participants will include both patients and health clinic staff
  • Conduct semi-structured interviews and focus groups via phone and/or video conference
  • Track recruitment and study participation
  • Code and analyze qualitative data, and discuss data analysis and interpretation throughout the evaluation process with a qualitative collaborator and others on the study team
  • Help to summarize findings for written reports
  • Conduct cognitive interviews via phone and/or video conference to help inform survey development
  • Work effectively on interdisciplinary teams with both internal staff and external partners including qualitative researchers, epidemiologists, clinicians, and project managers

 

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health or a related discipline plus two (2) years’ experience in qualitative research and/or evaluation, or an equivalent combination of education, formal training, and/or professional experience
  • Experience conducting semi-structured interviews on health-related topics; experience can be through professional work, an internship and/or academic coursework
  • Experience coding data in qualitative analytic software, such as Dedoose, MAXQDA, or NVivo
  • Excellent interpersonal and conversational skills, including ability to present thoughts clearly and listen attentively
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong understanding of the social determinants of health
  • Awareness of and demonstrable sensitivity toward members of diverse cultures and populations
  • Ability to protect confidential and highly sensitive information
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Fluency in Spanish; able to conduct interviews and focus groups in Spanish, communicate with Spanish speakers via email and translate interview guides into Spanish
  • Experience conducting focus groups and cognitive interviews

Arbor Research employees are currently located in 8 states across the US. At present, the majority of our employees work remotely from their home.
