The Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health seeks candidates for the position of assistant or associate professor in the area of health decision science. This is a tenure-ladder position, with the academic rank to be determined in accordance with the successful candidate’s experience and accomplishments.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program, play a central role in the department’s research and teaching programs, and to fully engage as an active community member in the Center for Health Decision Science (CHDS). The successful candidate will teach in the decision science curriculum, advise masters and doctoral students, and direct doctoral students in their dissertation research.
Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in health policy, economics, public policy, operations research, or other related disciplines, with evidence of a concentration or expertise in decision sciences and demonstrated experience and skills necessary to play a central role in research and teaching. Because of the heterogeneity of the department, the position is open to individuals with a variety of applied research interests.
Faculty in the department of health policy and management conduct research in the broad areas of decision science, health economics, health services and access, and public health practice and policy. Decision science faculty conduct applied and methodological research, and address important decisions relevant to policy and practice, from clinical decisions facing a patient, to public health decisions that affect a population, to environment and climate decisions that will affect the health of future generations.
The Center for Health Decision Science (CHDS) brings together a community of core and affiliated faculty, research staff, doctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows, that collectively work to improve population health through decision science research, education, and policy translation. In addition to applied and methodological research, faculty teach in the core decision science curriculum, mentor scholars and practitioners from different academic disciplines, and engage in numerous educational initiatives to increase “decision analytic literacy” in public health and strengthen analytic capacity globally. Faculty are committed to achieving an impact through stakeholder engagement, effective communication with a variety of audiences, including policy makers, practitioners, and the public, and cross-sectoral collaboration.
