Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two years of experience in the evaluation and/or analysis of health, human services or related programs and/or fields; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and four years of such experience; OR six years of such experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of such experience.

 

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available. If telecommuting is available, the incumbent will be required to have a telephone/mobile device, and internet access.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Public Health or a related field. Experience in public health research, surveillance, or evaluation. Experience coordinating and/or contributing to the evaluation of a public health program or intervention. Proficiency in data analysis, database and statistical software, interpretation, and dissemination of data for varied audiences. Background and/or experience with analyzing large public health data (BRFSS, emergency department, hospital discharge, and vital statistic data), linking large datasets, and in the interpretation of data analytic results. Experience with report writing and presenting results. Proficiency using SAS including proficient use of SAS BASE, GRAPH, STAT, ODS.

 

Responsibilities
The Evaluation Specialist II will be working to strengthen asthma surveillance and evaluation initiatives conducted by the Public Health Information Group with the NYS Asthma Control Program. The incumbent will assist in the evaluation activities related to Project BREATHE NY and other major program or evaluation projects as needed. Project BREATHE serves as a framework for health systems and community-based partners to integrate sustainable, evidence-based asthma care coordinated across settings to improve quality of life and health outcomes for children with asthma and their families by educating patients and providers, driving quality improvement, building clinical-community linkages, and addressing health equity and social determinants of health. The incumbent will assist in developing and implementing evaluation tools and processes, quality improvement data collection, and performance measurement reporting to drive program success. The incumbent will monitor and assist in the coordination of data collection, processing, and analysis related to Project BREATHE and other major asthma evaluation activities. The incumbent will assist in incorporating the Project BREATHE NY program theory, framework, and evaluation results for Project BREATHE NY and other major asthma program initiatives as needed in the State Action Plan for Asthma Control, Data to Action Reports, and other materials for reporting and dissemination.

 

This position is supported by the New York State Public Health Corps Fellowship Program.
