Overview

Minimum Qualifications

Undergraduate or Graduate Student enrolled in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Public Health or related field.

 

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available. If telecommuting is available, the incumbent will be required to have a telephone/mobile device, and internet access.

Preferred Qualifications

Coding skills in C/C++, Java, Python, R, SAS or JavaScript, database design and SQL.  A solid foundation in computer science or data analytics with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design.  Experience in Object Oriented programming.  Solid understanding of cloud development principles and patterns such as loose coupling, clean separation of services and scaled out parallel processing.  Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with data scientists, software engineers and program managers in multiple organizations.  Familiarity or ability to quickly ramp up with machine learning, deep learning, data mining, and/or data science.  Strong intellectual curiosity and passion about learning new technologies.

 

Responsibilities

The Hourly Project Assistant II will be part of the data modernization infrastructure team in New York State Department of Health. The incumbent will be involved in foundational building blocks for data modernization including infrastructure, cloud, and engineering effort to move data analytics and management to the cloud and developing cloud best practices. The incumbent will be involved in identifying opportunities for modernization and implementation of innovative data analytics models/technologies. The incumbent will have the opportunity to participate in implementation of a virtual, share computing environment for data analytics.
