Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field and one year of experience providing direct patient/client services in a health, human service or community-based organization; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and three years of such experience; OR five years of such experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

 

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available. If telecommuting is available, the incumbent will be required to have a telephone/mobile device, and internet access.

A valid driver’s in good standing will be required for travel to areas not served by public transportation. The incumbent(s) hired into this position must live within commuting distance to the official work location. The incumbent(s) who relocate to New York State (NYS) for this position will be required to obtain a NYS driver’s license. NYS requires new residents to obtain a license within 30 days of becoming a resident.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate degree in a related field. Knowledge of microbiology; epidemiological investigations; environmental sampling and surveillance; and control of infectious and chronic diseases. Experience with field sampling, electronic data collection, database management, and geographic information systems (GIS). Experience in coordinating multidisciplinary projects and preparing reports. Knowledge in wastewater surveillance for effects on human health. Experience coordinating with remote colleagues.

 

 

 

Responsibilities

The Public Health Representative II will be located in the Western Regional Office located in Buffalo, NY. The incumbent will assist with activities within the Bureau of Environmental & Occupational Epidemiology, Center for Environmental Health and join a team of public health professionals to work on CDC cooperative agreements for environmental surveillance activities, including the current statewide COVID-19 wastewater-based epidemiology program. The incumbent will assist with regional level with local and regional health department staff sewershed surveillance activities; provide assistance summarizing data and interpreting results; assist in the preparation of internal reports, presentations, posters, tables, charts, and graphs; and assist to develop presentations for internal and external stakeholders and the public. The incumbent will assist with field activities such as identifying sampling sites to aid efficient and equitable surveillance across communities and assist local health departments and utilities in setting up and utilizing sampling networks in specific areas. The incumbent will perform other appropriate related duties as assigned.

 

This position is supported by the New York State Public Health Corps Fellowship Program.

 

Successful completion of the Public Health Essentials certificate program will be required.

 

This is a grant funded position, expected to last approximately one year.

 

Travel, between 25%-50% will be required.
