A Bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, environmental science, a related social science or related field; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and two years of experience in public health, health regulatory, human services or health related program organization; OR four years of such experience.
This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available. If telecommuting is available, the incumbent will be required to have a telephone/mobile device, and internet access.

The incumbent(s) hired into this position must live within commuting distance to the official work location. The incumbent(s) who relocate to New York State (NYS) for this position will be required to obtain a NYS driver’s license. NYS requires new residents to obtain a license within 30 days of becoming a resident.
Strong scientific and communications experience or knowledge, including experience conducting outreach with various audiences and collaborating with community groups. Demonstrated presentation skills; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suites and/or ArcGIS. Coursework in natural sciences, environmental sciences, environmental health, health communications, public policy or environmental policy.
The Public Health Specialist I will be located within the Center for Environmental Health’s Outreach and Education Group and will work with community organizations, grant partners and New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) staff to assist in disseminating routine information on environmental health topics and healthy fish consumption, and assist in assessing outreach materials and activities. The incumbent will provide support toward the creation of new partnerships and assist to maintain existing relationships with entities that promote Hudson River fish advisory education; assist with the maintenance of fish advisory materials that communicate the NYS DOH fish consumption advice; assist with the collection of fish consumption surveys, assist in maintenance and participation in Hudson River fish advisory sign program, and assist with the maintenance of relevant databases. The incumbent will also assist in performing other appropriate related duties.
Travel, approximately 30% of the time, will be required.
