Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, a related Social Science or a related field; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and two years of experience in a public health, human services or health related program/organization field; OR four years of experience in a public health, human services or health related program/organization.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available. Successful completion of the Public Health Essentials certificate program will be required.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience collaborating with external partners. Experience with K-12 schools. Knowledge of various environmental health topics. Experience with promoting programs or conducting program outreach with various audiences. Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

 

Responsibilities

The Public Health Specialist I will work to improve knowledge and awareness of environmental health issues in schools across NYS. The incumbent will assist with activities related to this program and will be responsible for the following duties: work with existing program staff, various external stakeholders, K-12 school staff, and other NYSDOH staff to assist with implementation of the program statewide; assist with planning virtual or in-person regional seminars, tabling events and a program sponsored conference; assist with conducting outreach and program promotion; assist with tracking program enrollment and other metrics; assist with the collection and organization of evaluation data; assist with enrolling schools in the program; communicate with K-12 schools; and other related duties.

 

This position is supported by the New York State Public Health Corps Fellowship Program.

 

Successful completion of the Public Health Essentials certificate program will be required.

 

This is a grant funded position, expected to last approximately one year.
