Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Epidemiology, Environmental Studies, Public Health, Health Administration or a related field and one year of experience in a public health, human services or health related program/organization; OR an Associate’s degree and three years of such experience; OR five years of related experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available. Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of birth defects and medical record terminology, experience in use of electronic medical record (EMR) platforms and familiarity with data entry using a variety of tools. Experience abstracting medical record data for a research study. Experience with Microsoft Access, Excel, and Adobe Pro.

The part time (50% FTE) Public Health Specialist II will be located in Albany, NY and will work with hospitals, clinics, and physicians’ offices to obtain medical records for potential Birth Defects Study to Evaluate Pregnancy Exposures (BD-STEPS) subjects. The incumbent will be responsible for ascertaining eligible birth defects among subjects residing in specific counties within New York State. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining a caseload tracking system, screening identified cases for eligibility following study protocols and abstracting the required data into the study data collection tool. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining relationships with physicians and medical records staff in their assigned area; and will perform other appropriate related duties.
