Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field and two years of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in a related field and one year of research experience.
This position involves potential occupational exposure to human or non-human primate blood, bodily fluids or tissues, or other potentially infectious materials (OPIMs) as defined by OSHA.
The incumbent in this position be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to gloves, lab coats, and protective eye wear.
This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available. If telecommuting is available, the incumbent will be required to have a telephone/mobile device, and internet access.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience handling blood and dried blood spot specimens; performing high throughput immunoassay testing; operating laboratory instruments; performing immunoassays; recording and analyzing data; conducting validation studies for clinical laboratory tests. Working knowledge of bloodborne viruses, biosafety practices, and contamination control measures. Experience with standard operating procedures, assay validation, and serologic assay methods.
Responsibilities
The Research Scientist I (RS I) will primarily be responsible for performing and monitoring performance quality of an immunoassay assay to detect HIV antibodies in blood specimens, including dried blood spots. Duties include the preparation of samples for testing and performance of the HIV assay; troubleshooting for both the assay and associated instrumentation; preparation and verification of test reagents; review and reporting of HIV test results using the program’s Laboratory Information Management System; accessioning of patient samples and blood spot distribution; prepare and update standard operating procedures as needed; conduct validation studies and prepare validation packages required to maintain regulatory compliance; maintain thorough and accurate records of all work completed; conduct training activities to ensure sufficient back up support is available for HIV assay performance; prepare and present data analyses and written reports; provide general lab management and assist with ordering; train/supervise students and/or volunteers, etc. Other appropriate related duties as assigned.
