Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of program coordination experience in a public health, health, or human services-related program or community-based organization; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and six years of such experience; OR eight years of such experience. The experience must have been contributing toward the development, implementation and/or evaluation of a program, project or other related activities. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of such experience. At least two years of experience must have included supervision of staff and/or program management.

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s or graduate degree in infection control, biology, statistics, public health, epidemiology, nursing, or a related field. Infectious disease pharmacist or clinical pharmacist with experience leading or participating in an institutional antibiotic stewardship program. At least three years’ work experience in antibiotic stewardship, quality improvement in healthcare settings, public health surveillance, healthcare-associated infection surveillance, and/or related public health activities. Experience leading quality improvement projects. Knowledge of antibiotic stewardship related principles. Demonstrated experience writing reports or similar written communication and providing presentations. Experience with health-related data sets or disease registries and working with confidential data. Experience with information technology and systems used for electronic public health reporting. Experience supervising staff.

The Senior Program Coordinator will be work in the Central Office of the Bureau of Healthcare Associated Infections and will work with senior staff to develop the NYSDOH’s antimicrobial stewardship (AS) efforts. The incumbent will be expected to develop and maintain technical knowledge and understanding of AS principles across the healthcare spectrum. The incumbent will take a leadership role in AS activities and oversee the coordination of AS activities. Activities will include working with stakeholders to develop and maintain awareness of AS activities occurring in NYS and nationally, identify and use data from a variety of sources to identify trends and inform development of AS promotional activities and educational materials (e.g., National Healthcare Safety Network, NYS State Aid Applications, Medicaid data), and engage healthcare facilities to ensure the appropriate use of antibiotics throughout a variety of healthcare settings. The incumbent will ensure that health equity indicators are incorporated into all aspects of the work. Working with senior staff, the incumbent will also engage with Local Health Departments (LHDs) to support AS work occurring at LHDs and determine additional support that may be needed. The incumbent will participate in CDC-led activities, as needed, to successfully achieve the goal to improve appropriate use of antibiotics in NYS.
