Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or a related field; OR an Associate’s degree in a related field and two years of experience in a public health, human services or health related program/organization field; OR four years of such experience.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available. If telecommuting is available, the incumbent will be required to have a telephone/mobile device, and internet access.

Preferred Qualifications
At least two years of customer service. Experience with working with patients in a healthcare setting. Knowledge of HIPAA. Experience with data collection via interviewing. Knowledge of HIV/AIDS. Professional experience interacting with medical professionals. Experience working with secure and confidential data.

Responsibilities
The Public Health Specialist I will work within the Bureau of HIV/STI Field Services (BHSFS) team and assist with programmatic efforts for staff that work throughout the state (excluding New York City). The incumbent will assist with efforts to decrease the rates of Congenital Syphilis to address the most commonly known missed prevention opportunity- ‘Late testing/seroconversion’. The incumbent will provide support to the Innovation and Rapid Response team to contact patient(s) who were recently diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection (STI) and assist to provide education on the importance of third trimester screening. In addition to assisting with the Congenital Syphilis efforts, the incumbent will provide programmatic and administrative support for issues related to Health Equity, Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity efforts. The incumbent will collect information for these topics that will assist staff with building the foundation of a quality improvement project for BHSFS Disease Intervention Specialists.

The position is supported by the New York State Public Health Corps Fellowship Program.

Successful completion of the Public Health Essentials certificate program will be required.
