Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics/biostatistics or a related field and three years of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in a related field and two years of research experience; OR a Doctorate in a related field.

 

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting may not be available. If telecommuting is available, the incumbent will be required to have a telephone/mobile device, and internet access.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in or certification in infection control, communicable disease investigation, registered nurse. Experience in public health disease surveillance. Experience managing multiple tasks, conducting communicable disease case/outbreak and infection control investigations. Experience working with Excel, SAS, or related program. Experience with public speaking and preparation of written materials such as reports, abstracts, and publications.

 

Responsibilities

The Research Scientist II will perform research related to communicable disease epidemiology activities, including working with state laboratories, local health departments, and other federal, state, and local partners to investigate potential disease clusters support and/or outbreaks; monitor and analyze county and region-wide trends in Electronic Clinical Laboratory Reporting System (ECLRS) reporting and Communicable Disease Syndromic Surveillance (CDESS); collection methods and uses of data and provide technical assistance and guidance to program staff as needed. The incumbent will also contribute to publication of research findings in scientific journals and reports and perform other appropriate related duties as assigned.
