Program Description
The Global HIV Implementation Science Research Training Fellowship aims to prepare pre- and post-doctoral individuals for careers as independently-funded researchers and for leadership in global HIV implementation research. Pre- and post-doctoral fellows are trained in multidimensional, interdisciplinary approaches to rigorously test interventions to improve the uptake, implementation and translation of recent scientific findings into standard of care, as well as to evaluate the impact of bringing such interventions to scale. The Fellowship is funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health. It is a joint enterprise between the Department of Epidemiology and ICAP.

Program components include:
• Streamlined coursework based on an individualized training plan
• Tailored mentorship
• Weekly faculty-fellow seminars
• Research placements in domestic and international field settings
• Opportunities for conference presentations
• Instruction in manuscript writing & grant preparation
• Training in responsible conduct of research

Eligibility Criteria

Pre-doctoral applicants should meet the following criteria:

  1. Doctoral students accepted or enrolled in a doctoral program in the Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health
  2. A record of academic and professional excellence
  3. Commitment to a career in HIV implementation science research
  4. U.S. citizenship or permanent U.S. residency

Post-doctoral applicants should meet the following criteria:

  1. Completed a doctoral program
  2. A record of academic and professional excellence
  3. Commitment to a career in HIV implementation science research
  4. U.S. citizenship or permanent U.S. residency
