Overview

Under the direction of the Community Engagement & Policy Division Manager, the Policy Coordinator works to determine strategies based on legislative and regulatory analysis findings. This positions works with the Policy Analyst on common efforts and engagement with public officials. Responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with elected officials and governmental staff, primarily at the state and local level. Identify and comprehend public health policy issues emerging at the federal, state, and local level that will advance health department opportunities as well as standing as a thought leader in public health practice. Accountable for the health department’s visibility at the local and state level while also being a reliable resource of information to elected officials and governmental staffers. This position provides leadership and strategic direction to the Policy Analyst.

 

Minimum requirements:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.
2. 3+ years’ experience working with elected officials and governmental staff, primarily at the state and local level.
3. Excellent knowledge of government and legislative processes.
4. Excellent writing, speaking, and presentation skills.
5. Ability to digest information quickly, accurately, and communicate it appropriately.
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and external to the department.
7. Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

 

Preferred qualifications:
1. Master’s Degree in a relevant field.
2. 5+ years of experience working with elected officials and governmental staff, primarily at the state and local level.
3. Public health background and/or knowledge
4. High energy, highly motivated individual
5. Experience with or direct knowledge of principles of community organizing
