Under the guidance of the Vice President, Programs, the Program Director, Health is responsible for aligning NEEF’s health focus area with organizational and programmatic priorities to include developing both short- and long-term goals and objectives related to public health. In this capacity, they will develop and manage a portfolio of organizational initiatives and internal and external relationships. The Program Director will serve as subject matter expert and lead programs and initiatives related to health, while collaborating with other departments and focus areas as appropriate.
Program Design, Management, and Evaluation
§ Develop, execute, and assess an integrated health strategy that is aligned with NEEF’s organizational priorities and mission, and implementable at the national and local levels.
§ Lead general program management activities (i.e. draft budgets, project plans/timelines, reports).
§ Collaborate with the research and evaluation director to evaluate the success and impact of NEEF’s health initiatives, and apply data, research, and evaluation findings to ensure continuous improvement and effectiveness.
§ Design and implement public health initiatives that engage traditionally underrepresented audiences/communities in participating in environmental education and health promotion activities.
§ Identify, evaluate, and implement health program activities that integrate environmental justice and climate change.
§ Maintain relevant program data in Salesforce and produce reports that evaluate and support the impact of NEEF’s health efforts.§ Research and analyze emerging trends in health and provide insight that will inform and improve NEEF’s health initiatives.
§ Work cross-functionally with other program directors to integrate health across program areas.
§ Build and manage a portfolio of strategic, diverse stakeholder relationships necessary to achieve NEEF’s overall goals and mission.
§ Increase the reach and impact of NEEF’s public health work through a variety of methods including, but not limited to creatively engaging stakeholders with broad public health knowledge, expertise, and perspectives, and leading regional and local outreach efforts for traditional and nontraditional partners.
§ Actively contribute to fundraising, including but not limited to building/managing relationships, participating in development meetings/pitches, and developing proposals, reports, and budgets.
Content Development and Communications
Lead the development of resources, outreach materials, and opportunities for healthcare providers and general audiences, including designing and implementing in-person and distance learning opportunities.
§ Lead the conception and development of technical assistance resources related to health initiatives (i.e. environmental triggers for asthma).
§ Collaborate with NEEF’s Marketing & Communications staff to develop health content for stakeholders and the public.
§ Collaborate with NEEF’s Marketing & Communications team to identify and execute strategies that increase visibility of NEEF’s health work through traditional and social media, influencers, speaking opportunities, etc.
Quality Assurance, Financials, and Compliance
Prepare program reports for federal, foundation, and corporate sponsors/stakeholders.
§ Oversee and ensure compliance with all existing and new funding initiatives provided by federal, foundation, and corporate partners (i.e. CDC).
§ Successfully manage and coach staff to accomplish program goals.

Master’s degree or equivalent in public or environmental health, or related field.
Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional work experience in one or more of the following areas: public/environmental health, epidemiology, public and community health services, or related health discipline.
Minimum of 5 years of project management experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting. Proven ability to manage projects from beginning to end.
Strong relationship management skills. Ability to steward existing relationships, build new relationships, and manage stakeholders from the public and private sectors.
Strong organizational skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and frequent deadlines.
Experience engaging and working with traditionally marginalized and underrepresented communities.
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with fundraising. Federal fundraising experience a plus.
Some travel required.
Ability to sit in meetings for long periods of time.
Ability to work effectively using Microsoft office and other tools on a personal computer for long periods of time.
