Purpose of Position
THIS POSTING WILL BE USED TO CONDUCT ONGOING RECRUITMENT AND WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL THE POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED.
Why does the job exist?
The successful candidate will serve as New Mexico’s Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance System (BRFSS) epidemiologist, producing data and reports that are vital to New Mexico Department of Health programs and their pubic health outcomes, including alcohol and substance misuse, tobacco use and prevention, diabetes, stroke, vaccinations, oral health, physical activity and obesity, and others. The BRFSS is a population-based survey of the risk factors and health conditions of New Mexico adults.
How does it get done?
The key responsibilities of this position are:
1) Analysis of BRFSS data, using appropriate methods for analysis of population-based surveys using complex sample designs
2) Dissemination of BRFSS data through written reports and presentations
3) Managing data and producing analytical data sets of single- and multiple-year BRFSS data
4) Providing support to data analysts inside and outside of DOH
5)Promoting use of BRFSS data inside and outside of DOH for the purposes of policy development and program design
6) Regular communication with CDC and other BRFSS states to collaborate on survey methodology, data management, sample design, and questionnaire design
7) Collaboration with the NM BRFSS coordinator on survey design, sample design, data management, and questionnaire design

New Mexico public health programs and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have at least five (5) years of epidemiologist.

Minimum Qualification
Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Sciences, Social Sciences, or Statistics and two (2) years in Public Health to include data analysis and linking methodology. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Executive Order 2021-066 requires all employees with the State of New Mexico to provide either proof of COVID-19 vaccination (including proof of a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster dose) or proof of a COVID-19 viral test every week.

The Public Health Order (on Vaccination) dated December 2, 2021, requires Congregate Care Facility Workers and Hospital Workers to have received a primary series of vaccination by October 6, 2021, and a booster dose of vaccine by January 17, 2022, or within four weeks of becoming eligible for a booster.

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds and some travel with the occasional overnight stay may be required.
