Why does the job exist?
The Foodborne Epidemiologist will coordinate foodborne and waterborne disease activities within the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Bureau (IDEB), specifically the employee will advance the Foodborne Epidemiology program in New Mexico by developing, updating, and improving protocols and procedures related to foodborne and waterborne associated sporadic cases and outbreak investigations. In addition, the Foodborne Epidemiologist will develop and/or implement training for other NMDOH staff on foodborne and waterborne illness investigations. The employee will maintain current knowledge of laboratory methods for foodborne diseases and the impact on infectious disease surveillance. This position will also contribute to the bureau by participating as a member of the Core Surveillance Team on a scheduled, rotating basis and as a member of the day call team, and will participate in emergency response operations as needed.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have:

Experience conducting surveillance for reportable conditions;
Experience with data analysis programs, SAS preferred;
Experience with presenting public health data to stakeholders.

Minimum Qualification
Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Sciences, Social Sciences, or Statistics and two (2) years in Public Health to include data analysis and linking methodology. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.
