Why does the job exist?
The Incumbent plays a key role in data management and analysis for surveillance initiatives of the Substance Use Epidemiology Section, which focuses on drug overdose and misuse in NM. This position entails leadership, management, and supervision of surveillance activities, while also functioning as a working epidemiologist. Leveraging their expertise in statistics and/or data science, the role will support database management and data processing and analysis for priority surveillance projects conducted by SAES epidemiologists. The incumbent will engage in training (one-on-one and through teaching and mentorship) with colleagues on statistical methods, data analysis and use, and paper writing. The incumbent will serve to provide oversight on SAES contract functions including making certain all new contracts, renewals/invoices are accurate, and in compliance with Department of Health policy. This position serves the people of NM, Department of Health leadership, management and supervision by the Substance Use Epidemiology Section Head.
The ideal candidate will have:
Understanding of and experience working in the field of substance use disorders;
Experience conducting active surveillance;
Experience with data analysis and matching programs, SAS preferred;
Experience with presenting public health data to stakeholders.
About NM Department of Health, Epidemiology & Response Division
Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Sciences, Social Sciences, or Statistics and two (2) years of experience in Public Health to include data analysis and linking methodology. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.
