Purpose of Position
This position is responsible for the production of geocoded birth and death data files for surveillance and epidemiological activities produced by the Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics.  Incumbent will provide data and technical assistance within and outside of NMDOH, including the oversight of evaluating and processing data requests.  This position will utilize SAS, NM-IBIS, and geocoding programs to pull data from the Vital Records database and evaluate complex datasets, heat maps, and statistical analyses, all of which are used for various bureau reports and data presentations.  Incumbent will also oversee the production and contribution to written reports and data presentations, upload birth and death data into NM-IBIS, and presenting at an annual conference and/or producing an annual Epi Report/Epi Brief.  This position works closely with the Epidemiologist Supervisor, the Bureau Chief, and various outside partners to contribute to daily COVID mortality reporting and address any concerns with reports.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and experience with SAS programming, tabulating and analyzing complex datasets, experience performing data linkages between administrative datasets, and performing data quality assurance checks.  Also, the ideal candidate will have attention to detail, desire to work with birth and death data, extensive customer service experience, ability to work in high-demand and stressful situations, experience with GIS applications, and heat maps.

Minimum Qualification
Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Sciences, Social Sciences, or Statistics and two (2) years in Public Health to include data analysis and linking methodology. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.
