Position Overview:

Public Health Solutions (PHS) is seeking a bilingual Maternal Child Health (MCH) AmeriCorps Associate to support operations and client engagement for PHS’ Maternal Child Health Unit. The Maternal Child Health AmeriCorps Associate is responsible for providing programmatic and administrative support for program leadership and staff in Public Health Solutions’ Maternal and Child Health Unit.

The Associate’s primary role (60% of the position) will be to support Queens Family Connect, a coordinated intake and referral network for maternal child health services. The MCH Associate will help pregnant and parenting New Yorkers connect to the programs and resources that best fit their needs and interests, predominantly through phone-based interactions. The other 40% of the time, the MCH Associate will help staff the Queens Diaper Bank, the Mobile Market, and the Queens Cribs for Kids programs.

Specifically, the MCH AmeriCorps Associate will:

Screen and connect pregnant and parenting community members via phone call and closed-loop referral technology to PHS and other community partners’ services, including home visiting, resources that impact the social determinants of health, and other parenting services. The MCH AmeriCorps Associate will receive training and support to be successful in this role.
Manage referrals and screen clients through various referral data platforms including NowPow, Unite NYC, etc.
Schedule and coordinate community events, workshops, and stakeholder meetings; represent MCH unit in outreach events and stakeholder meetings.
Conduct data entry and carry out routine office activities such as answering and routing phone calls, copying, filing, data entry, recordkeeping, handling incoming and outgoing e-mail, and mail, and other tasks as needed.
Provide in-person staffing for the Queens Diaper Bank twice per month, the Mobile Market program twice per month, and the Cribs for Kids program twice per month.
Handle other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

HS diploma or GED and some college coursework (enrolled in either an associates or bachelor’s degree program).
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and respectful interactions with community members looking for services. Must interact well with staff and clients alike and have an outgoing personality.
Demonstrated experience performing administrative duties with speed and accuracy without immediate and constant supervision.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize needs of multiple programs.
Must be highly organized and detail oriented.
Ability to maintain and improve upon tracking systems to promote smooth administrative operations.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with an attention to detail and professionalism in all communications.
Collaborative spirit, seeking out how to be most helpful to the MCH unit.
Previous experience with working with community partners and completing word and basic numerical reports.
Must be bilingual in English and another language such as Spanish, Haitian Creole, Bengali, or Mandarin.
Proficient in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.).
Ability to learn and navigate new data systems.
Demonstrated commitment to, and interest in learning more about, maternal child health, systems approach to health equity, and community services in NYC.

Salary: $16,500.00
