Since January 2020, DOHMH has been fighting the COVID-19 pandemic – activities include but are not limited to: surveillance & epidemiological investigations; lab testing; engaging and providing guidance to healthcare partners; ensuring the safety & health of responders; providing timely and accurate information to the public; promoting the emotional health of New Yorkers and coordinating citywide COVID-19 vaccine administration. With grant funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), DOHMH is undertaking a new initiative to establish, expand, train, and sustain the public health workforce to support jurisdictional COVID-19 prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives over 2 years.
The selected candidate will be an employee of Public Health Solutions, a nonprofit organization which is the fiscal and administrative manager of the grant, but work will be supervised by DOHMH. This is a grant-funded position ending June 30, 2023.
The Bureau of Communications housed within the Office of External Affairs serves as the agency’s in-house publisher, marketer of trendsetting, culturally responsive campaigns and initiatives, maintains the agency’s website, and oversees new and social media outreach and efforts. Within Communications, the Digital Communications group is responsible for maintaining DOHMH as one of the leading providers of health information on the web and via social media.
Summary of Position:
DOHMH has an opening for a Bilingual Social Media Engagement Coordinator. Reporting to the Director of Digital Strategy.
Specifically, the Bilingual Social Media Engagement Coordinator will:
• Post COVID-19 content on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Nextdoor based on approved messaging, including daily posts in Spanish.
• Review comments and incoming direct messages on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Nextdoor daily, in English and Spanish relating to COVID-19.
• Respond to constituents who have service or information requests or questions.
• Liaise with DOHMH staff to receive vetted agency responses.
• Contribute to and expand internal FAQ with approved responses.
• Create messaging guides and social media toolkits for new COVID-19 campaigns based on approved agency social content as needed.
• Work with social media marketing and content managers to version owned COVID-19 content for external audience.
• Share social media COVID-19 updates with key internal and external stakeholders (including CPE, PIO CAT+IGA, City Hall and other City social media managers on Slack).
• Project manage translation requests for external COVID-19 messaging kits.
• Perform COVID-19 stock image research.
• Create trackable URLs for COVID-19 campaigns.
• Support other social staff with COVID-19 copywriting, scheduling, content creation, photography or other tasks as assigned.
• Analyze and report out on performance of COVID-19 content to share with leadership on a monthly basis.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
• Fluency or proficiency reading and writing in Spanish required.
• Willingness to be on-call for work after hours and on weekends in an emergency, including during COVID-19 surges.
• This individual will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies.
• Preference may be given to individuals residing in New York City (5 boroughs) or surrounding New York State counties.
• This individual must reside in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) by their confirmed start date.
• This is a temporary grant-funded position ending June 30, 2023.
