Since January 2020, DOHMH has been fighting the COVID-19 pandemic- activities include but are not limited to: surveillance & epidemiological investigations; lab testing; engaging and providing guidance to healthcare partners; ensuring the safety & health of responders; providing timely and accurate information to the public; promoting the emotional health of New Yorkers and coordinating citywide COVID-19 vaccine administration. With grant funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), DOHMH is undertaking a new initiative to establish, expand, train, and sustain the public health workforce to support jurisdictional COVID-19 prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives over 2 years.
The selected candidate will be an employee of Public Health Solutions, a nonprofit organization which is the fiscal and administrative manager of the grant, but work will be supervised by DOHMH. This is a grant-funded position ending June 30, 2023.
NYC DOHMH’s Office of Emergency Preparedness and Response (OEPR) was created to promote DOHMH’s and NYC’s ability to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from health emergencies. OEPR coordinates agency- and healthcare system-wide emergency planning, exercises and training, evaluation, information sharing, operations and logistics and coordination with healthcare partners, community stakeholders, City, State & Federal partners. OEPR’s work focuses on promoting and protecting public health through emergency preparedness and response; and recognizes that social inequities negatively impact our efforts to maintain and improve the health of NYC during and after a disaster. With these inequities in mind, OEPR is also working to improve its application of a social justice and racial equity lens to its emergency preparedness and response work. OEPR’s efforts to combat the harmful effects of systemic injustices on communities focuses on working towards the most equitable post-disaster public health outcomes possible.
The Office of Citywide Procurement (OCP) is the centralized procurement line of service within DCAS that obtains goods, construction, and other services on an agency level and on behalf of other agencies citywide. OCP is responsible for contract management, quality assurance, and supply chain management. Our goal is to efficiently provide high quality, cost-effective goods and services and high levels of customer service while maintaining the public trust and ensuring that all products and services support the City’s environmental and social goals. Last year, OCP processed orders for goods and services worth over $1.5 billion for over 100 City agencies, departments, boards, and authorities.
The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), Office of Citywide Procurement (OCP) seeks to hire a Driver specifically assigned to assisting NYC agency PPE and testing kit needs.
DCAS Logistics/Central Storehouse (CSH) inventories safety, janitorial, paper, oil & lubricants as well as COVID-19 emergency response commodities for distribution to City agencies. The Storehouse offers consolidated logistical services and delivers goods to more than 1,600 agency locations. CSH plays a critical role in the agency’s emergency response as well as provides logistical services that are effective, economical, efficient, and environmentally friendly and continually strives to identify methods to better service and support City agencies. To-date, the DCAS CSH has delivered over $450 million worth of COVID-19 items through over 13,000 individual deliveries to congregate care settings, City offices and non-profits serving COVID-positive individuals. The prospective candidate will be responsible for performing common laboring work requiring physical strength such as picking supplies and packing, unpacking, weighing, and measuring materials, supplies, and equipment.
Under supervision, the candidate will operate motor vehicles such as passenger cars, trucks, wreckers, forklifts, tractor-trailer trucks and sign-erecting trucks; in a small garage, may dispatch personnel, motor vehicles and equipment; performs related work.
Specifically, COVID-19 Response Driver will:
Operates one or more types of motor vehicles such as passenger car, ambulette, van, hearse, truck, wrecker, forklift, tractor-trailer truck or sign-erecting truck.
Delivery items to congregate care settings, including but not limited to homeless shelters, senior centers, and hospitals.
May drive a van/truck carrying employees and COVID-19 items to and from work locations.
May act as a chauffeur to an official. Checks the tires, oil, and fuel of the vehicle, replenishes fluids as needed, and checks the vehicle to see that lights, horn and brakes appear to be operating properly.
Reports any noticeable mechanical defects in the vehicle.
Cleans the windows and interior and exterior of the vehicle.
Assists in loading and unloading of PPE, testing kits and hand sanitizer.
Operates motor equipment mounted on, or transported by, the vehicle.
Is responsible for tools, supplies, PPE, and equipment carried in or on the assigned vehicle.
Possession of a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York at the time of appointment.
For appointment to certain positions in some agencies, possession of a Class A, B or C Commercial Driver. License valid in the State of New York, or a combination of these licenses, or possession of a valid New York State Learner’s Permit for a Class A, B or C Commercial Driver License, may be required. A candidate with a Learner’s Permit must obtain the appropriate driver license within three months from the date of appointment.
History of serious moving violations, license suspension or serious accidents may disqualify for appointment. Employees must maintain the appropriate driver license(s) for the duration of their employment.
Capacity and willingness to learn how to use current Warehouse Management System.
The ideal candidate for this position must be a pro-active and self-motivated individual with the ability to work in teams and in a highly dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders and timelines.
This is a temporary grant-funded position ending June 30, 2022.
This individual must reside in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) by their confirmed start date.
Preference may be given to individuals residing in New York City (5 boroughs) or surrounding New York State counties.
This individual will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies.
