Overview

With an annual budget of $2.3 billion and more than 6,000 employees throughout the five boroughs, the New York City Department of Health, and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH) is one of the largest public health agencies in the world, serving 8 million New Yorkers from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Since January 2020, DOHMH has been fighting the COVID-19 pandemic- activities include but are not limited to surveillance & epidemiological investigations; lab testing; engaging and providing guidance to healthcare partners; ensuring the safety & health of responders; providing timely and accurate information to the public; promoting the emotional health of New Yorkers and coordinating citywide COVID-19 vaccine administration. With grant funds from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), DOHMH is undertaking a new initiative to establish, expand, train, and sustain the public health workforce to support jurisdictional COVID-19 prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives over 2 years.

The selected candidate will be an employee of Public Health Solutions, a nonprofit organization which is the fiscal and administrative manager of the grant, but work will be supervised by DOHMH. This is a grant-funded position ending June 30, 2023.

Program Description:

The Division of Administration supports operations for the entire agency, including: Human Resources and Labor Relations, Facilities Planning and Administrative Services (space planning, architectural and engineering services, leasing, fleet, transportation and warehouse) and Operations (plant operations, on-site facility management, security, and custodial services) for District Health Centers and other DOHMH buildings, Occupational Health and Safety, Employee Health, Clinical Quality Management and Improvement and Worksite Wellness programs.

Worksite Wellness, located in the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, provides wellness initiatives, programs, and resources to help DOHMH live a healthy and fulfilling lifestyle. Worksite Wellness works on many different areas that contribute to well-being, like physical activity, healthy eating, emotional well-being, work-life balance, and COVID-19 vaccination education and COVID-19 testing. Worksite Wellness, in partnership with the Agency’s Division of Mental Hygiene, offers a range of services including mental health workshops on topics such as stress, burnout and resilience. As the public health workforce working on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic are experiencing high levels of burnout and stress, Worksite Wellness is looking to expand mental health support for and engagement with staff.

Job Description:

DOHMH has an opening for a Worksite Wellness Project Manager who will report to the Worksite Wellness Coordinator. This position offers the opportunity to work in a strategic position with partners and clients across the Agency. The position will help manage and expand mental health and wellness programming to address burnout and stress among the public health workforce as a result of COVID-19 and ongoing impacts of the pandemic. This position will liaise, partner, and help support divisions to improve staff mental well-being by organizing mental health workshops, trainings, and programs as well as developing action plans on how to support staff mental well-being during the on-going pandemic. This position will also develop a plan to evaluate the effectiveness and success of mental well-being programs implemented. The ideal candidate will have a Master of Public Health or Social Work, and four years of project management experience working in mental health.

Specifically, the Worksite Wellness Project Manager will:

Coordinate and manage mental health and wellness programming within Divisions across the agency
Work with Divisions to develop plans on how to improve and support mental health among their staff
Collaborate with Worksite Wellness partners, like the Division of Mental Hygiene, to plan and implement mental health workshops
Coordinate and manage wellness programs that specifically address stress, burnout, mental health, and other wellness issues related to working on COVID response
Plan for escalation of specialized wellness programs in the event of a resurgence of COVID or other type of public health emergency
Collaborate with the Worksite Wellness Specialist to deliver mental health workshops and programs
Collect data and track progress of program reach
Develop monthly reports
Provide updates and progress reports with agency leadership as needed

Qualifications:

Minimum of a bachelor’s from an accredited college or university; MPH, MSW
At least 2-4 years of project management experience
Previous experience working in mental health
Capacity and willingness to learn organizational applications and policies

Additional Desired Qualities:

Related graduate degree preferred
The ideal candidate for this position must be a pro-active and self-motivated individual with the ability to work in teams with multiple stakeholders.
Experience with stakeholder engagement and project management.
Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
Experience with program monitoring and evaluation.
Experience working with the public health sector.
Fluency Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Additional Information:

This is a temporary grant-funded position ending June 30, 2023.
This individual must reside in the tri-state area (NY, NJ, CT) by their confirmed start date.
Preference may be given to individuals residing in New York City (5 boroughs) or surrounding New York State counties.
This individual may be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies.
