About Rural Health Collaborative

RHC is an international 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was founded in 2010 to improve rural health and empower women in Akatsi, a small district in eastern Ghana. We have a small, long-term group of dedicated volunteers based in the US who help fundraise and provide oversight, and we have a large, dedicated team of 80 local women who implement the community-health programs in Ghana.

At RHC, we believe that investing in women fosters healthier communities and creates positive impact in rural Ghana. We believe a long-term commitment to a specific geographic region in Ghana is necessary to make real change and that change comes from within communities, and from the ground-up. We believe as US members we must be constantly aware of our unconscious bias, both as white individuals and participants in a system with roots in colonial empire, and we strive to be anti-racist. We believe that our Ghanaian counterparts have the best knowledge of their needs and how to best empower their communities. We value every background, identity and experience and believe that a diverse team strengthens us. We are committed to doing the work and being around long-term.
