Position Summary:

The Vice President, Partnerships & Development leads Sabin’s partnership and resource development activities to support its mission by building and maintaining strategic partnerships across sectors (global vaccine/immunization organizations, other NGOs, governments, philanthropy and industry), developing and leading ambitious funding strategies, and establishing and implementing growth-oriented programmatic fundraising goals.

The Vice President is a member of Sabin’s senior management team and has strategic, financial, operational and supervisory responsibilities. Working in close collaboration with executive leadership, the Vice President builds cohesive and effective operations. Working with program leads, the Vice President develops program concepts, and then working with their team, identifies/assesses funding opportunities, leads proposal development, and if successful, manages ongoing reporting/milestone requirements due to the funder. The ideal candidate is accomplished in international alliance management, partnership and coalition building, as well as a seasoned fundraiser with impeccable communications skills, including proposal development.

Responsibilities:

Partnerships & Development

  • Build and lead relationships with key partners and funders, advising colleagues on engagement strategies
  • Lead the development of targeted and strategic organizational partnerships prioritizing those in LMICs, building consensus with stakeholders across diverse sectors and geographies to achieve common objectives and facilitate new funding opportunities
  • Lead the development and execution of Sabin’s annual fundraising plan and programmatic fundraising strategies for new and existing programs, including related research, data collection, synthesis, analysis and recommendations for government, foundation, corporate and individual fundraising activities
  • Supervise the Partnerships & Development Team and guide the implementation of best practices and policies; oversee and approve all staff assignments and coach for expanded job responsibilities with a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Identify and assess funding opportunities; lead development of technical and financial proposals for complex multi-year, multimillion dollar funding submissions to government agencies and philanthropic donors, including management of partner relations and project management across internal and external teams to prepare submissions
  • Set annual fundraising goals and report against them quarterly to the Board of Trustees
  • Ensure partners and donors receive consistent, quality communications, including timely donor reports
  • Oversee creation of all fundraising and partnership materials, including briefs, fact sheets, letters of inquiry, grant proposals, acknowledgement letters, tax receipts, donor reports, and donor-targeted content for Sabin’s websites and print materials
  • Collaborate with program leadership on project design, ensuring effective mechanisms for monitoring and evaluation and application of diversity, equity and inclusion program metrics
  • Establish and maintain mechanisms to assess, prioritize and track partnerships
  • Integrate partnerships and resource development efforts with related Sabin activities, including but not limited to, program development, communications, operations and special events
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Organizational Management

  • Participate in senior management team activities, meetings and initiatives
  • Support Sabin’s work environment with a focus on quality and foster learning, respect, open communication, collaboration, integration and teamwork
  • Supervise, mentor, coach and train team members
  • Represent Sabin and promote its mission at events and meetings

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced degree in related field or professional certification a plus
  • 16+ years relevant experience, preferably in global or public health
  • Strong track record of driving strategy and fundraising, demonstrate initiative and leadership
  • Understand the vaccine R&D, global immunization and/or emerging and infectious disease ecosystems
  • Direct experience in building and maintaining relationships with donors and partners and understanding what motivates others; established networking connections
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator with ability to tailor approach toward the perspective of others; public speaking experience preferred
  • Strong strategic/critical thinking and goal orientation
  • Effectively manage projects so problems are anticipated and solutions identified quickly
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with purpose, urgency and accuracy in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to prioritize competing priorities and manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
  • Ability to build and lead efficient, effective teams who support organizational and individual goals
  • Proven fiscal and people management experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, Word) experience with Salesforce plus
  • Must demonstrate interest in furthering Sabin’s mission, superior service orientation
  • Ability to travel regularly for partnership and resource development activities, both domestically and internationally
