Health Sciences Research Assistant/Specialist/Coordinator

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Cooperative Studies Program (CSP) is a nationally renowned program that produces innovative solutions to Veteran and national healthcare problems through multi-site research studies.

 

The Seattle Epidemiologic Research and Information Center (ERIC) is hiring a full-time Research Assistant/Specialist/Coordinator. The Research Assistant/Specialist/Coordinator will support the Service and Health Among Deployed Veterans Study (SHADE Study, CSP #595), a multi-site observational study. The aim of the study is to characterize the impact of deployment-related pollution exposures during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Operation New Dawn (OND) on current respiratory health.

 

The Research Assistant/Specialist/Coordinator will provide operational support under the direction of the SHADE Study Program Manager.

 

Key duties:

§  Assist with development and maintenance of study databases, including data entry and data management

§  Assist with development and implementation of standard operating procedures and study materials

§  Assist with preparation and tracking of IRB submissions and other regulatory documents

§  Serve as liaison with investigators, site personnel, consultants, and contractors

§  Monitor subject recruitment and data collection activities and prepare reports and presentations

§  Conduct quality assurance/quality control procedures, including consent form audits and data reconciliation

§  Track progress and productivity of studies and projects

§  Coordinate and facilitate local and national meetings and trainings

 

Qualifications:

§  BA/BS or higher degree in a scientific- or health-related field required

§  1-4 years of work experience in clinical, epidemiological, or health services research required

o   If BA/BS, 1-4 years of research-related experience required

o   If higher degree, 1-2 years of research-related experience preferred

§  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with a diverse group of researchers and staff

§  Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

§  Solid problem-solving and critical thinking skills

§  Excellent time management skills

§  Ability to adapt to changing priorities and timelines

§  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook required

§  Programming experience in Microsoft Access or other database management system preferred
