Overview

Successful candidate will be responsible for experimental tasks including animal behavioral experiments, scientific assays, Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies, tissue isolation, microscopy, and data analysis. Other duties may include performing animal colony management, genotyping, and record keeping. Ideally, a successful candidate will have had prior experience with biological and biochemical assays as he or she will perform and direct student work on lab specific assays.

Primarily conduct research experiments according to established research protocols. Collects data and monitors test results. Operate, clean, and maintain organization of research equipment and research area. Track inventory levels and place replenishment orders. Participate in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials. Provide operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers.

Responsibilities:

Develops, designs, and conducts one or more research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision.

  • 20% Conducts research experiments according to established research protocols with moderate impact to the project(s). Collects data and monitors test results
  • 20% Operates, cleans, and maintains organization of research equipment and research area. Tracks inventory levels and places replenishment orders
  • 5% Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data and/or documents results for presentations and/or reporting to internal and external audiences
  • 15% Participates in the development, interpretation, and implementation of research methodology and materials
  • 5% Provides operational guidance on day-to-day activities of unit or program staff and/or student workers
  • 5% Performs literature reviews and writes reports
  • 10% Assist with skilled laboratory procedures or analyses involving commonly used assays such as gel electrophoresis, Western blot, and immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and assays specific to the laboratory
  • 10% Assist with behavioral tests on rodents and/or may learn to perform surgical procedures
