Leading the way as an Academic Learning Health System, Wake Forest University School of Medicine (WFUSM) is searching for a faculty member who will support the research activity of Dr. L. Ebony Boulware. Dr. Boulware is a renowned researcher, physician, and educator and will serve as the new Dean of WFUSM and Chief Science Officer of Atrium Health. Dr. Boulware’s research is focused on improving health and health equity for individuals and communities impacted by chronic health conditions such as kidney disease. Specific areas of research interest include understanding barriers to kidney transplantation and interventions to improve kidney health equity. Together, this faculty member and Dr. Boulware will work to set direction, build, and manage a research program that consists of multiple behavioral and clinical epidemiological research studies. Essential functions of this role include:

  • Oversight and management of the research program, including randomized controlled trials, observational studies, data analyses, fiscal oversight, regulatory document submissions, progress reports, attainment of research goals within established timelines, and participant recruitment/data.
  • Supervise and lead research staff/mentees, including ongoing performance evaluations and progress toward goals; identify new/changing staffing needs and facilitate hiring when needed.
  • Develop, write, and submit grant proposals for intra-and extra-mural funding; write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals; prepare abstracts for presentation of results to local, national, and international scientific meetings.
  • Collaborate and interact with investigators at local, regional, national, and international institutions; foster and maintain professional relationships with residents, fellows, staff-level teammates, physicians, faculty, students, leaders, and visiting scientists.

Committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all, the WFUSM is seeking faculty with the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in public health, epidemiology, health services, behavioral science, or equivalent required with evidence of relevant publications commensurate with rank.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and lead in a multidisciplinary setting with experience facilitating cross-departmental and/or cross-institutional research.
  • Expertise in research design, project coordination and personnel supervision as well as excellent oral communication skills; experience drafting manuscripts, reports, and database management.
